The 1979 Topps set includes 726 cards. The front of each card features the player's photograph with his name directly below. Across the bottom of the card is the player's team name within a colored banner.

This set includes 4 sub-series: League Leaders (1-8), Record Breakers (201-206), Season and Career Record Holders (players include Ryan, Maris, Cobb, Young, and Aaron; cards 411-418) and also "Prospects" which includes one player from each team (701-726). Important rookie cards include: Pedro Guerrero, Carney Landsford, Ozzie Smith, Bob Welch, and Willie Wilson. This set is loaded with hall of famers including: Morgan, Molitor, Carlton, Winfield, Murphy, Eckersley, Stargell, Yount, Seaver, Ryan, Smith, Bench, Rose, McCovey, Carew, Yaz, Perry, Brett, Palmer, Fingers, Perez, Jenkins, Niekro, Murray, Brock, Fisk, and Jackson. S Cards are organized in three different ways. (In Box) which means the set has actual scans of a few major star players. (In Binder) indicates that the complete set comes in a binder with 9-page binder pages. The (In Binder) sets are available as they are acquired from personal collections.

If the set is listed with neither of these designations, then the set is built virtually from our million card inventory. The cards are individually graded, and front and back scans are provided. These sets are usually priced a bit higher than the sets in box and in binder due to the labor involved.

For most cards 1980-present we use stock images and you will not receive the exact card pictured. Each card is professionally graded by a Dean's Cards expert and includes a 100% satisfaction guarantee. No one grades tougher than Dean's Cards and our grading is on par with PSA standards.

The card was scanned before it was put into a sleeve, to clearly show any possible imperfections that the card may possess. In 2019, we launched a grading software that we use to evaluate the cards that we sell. While the software is used to grade most of our inventory, many cards are reviewed by human eyes to catch any flaws that the software may miss.

This grading software was developed to provide far better grading and consistency than can be obtained using the human eye. For example, the scan sees the card at 1200 pixels per inch and a person with 20/20 vision sees it at about 338 ppi.

One of the unique things about Dean's Cards Grading Standards is that we use "Half-Grades" to identify well-centered cards. Most of these cards appear perfectly centered to the human eye. For example, a card that grades 6.5, will have all the corner characteristics and eye appeal of a card with a grade 6, and will also appear "perfectly centered", or close to it. The card is then placed in a standard "soft" sleeve, with an open top for easy removal. The Dean's Cards label is placed on the top back of the card sleeve, and is no way affixed to the surface of the card itself. Please note that when images are enlarged there may be instances of vertical lines running through the scans. This is a "dust speck" and it is evident by lines running into the black margins on the top and bottom of the image.
