1972 TOPPS FOOTBALL COMPLETE SET OF 351 CARDS. VERY SHARP CORNERS IN THIS COLLECTION AND A CHANCE OF SOME VERY HIGH GRADES ON SUBMISSION. When a set is composed of cards from a vending box, there is no chance of wax stains or fraying from wax wrapper machine; sets or cards from vending are an investors best chance of attaining very high grades.

PRESENTED IS A 351 CARD COMPLETE SET OF 1972 TOPPS FOOTBALL CARDS OF VERY LIMITED DISTRIBUTION. THESE HIGH NUMBERS ARE ALSO HOME TO 2 SUBSETS, THE POPULAR ALL-PRO AND IN ACTION SERIES WHICH ARE REPLETE WITH TALENT AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS HALL OF FAMERS WITHIN ITS MIDST. HURRICANE AGNES This set of football cards was manufactured in Duryea, Pennsylvania, near Scranton at the State's Northeast corner. Topps produced a 3rd series of 72's ---- 264 to 351 and a majority of these scarce high numbers were destroyed during flooding of the plant in the summer of 1972 by Hurricane Agnes. The hurricane severely flooded the Susquehanna and Lackawanna Rivers causing extensive damage to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area.

In both Pennsylvania and New Jersey combined, over 43,000 structures were either destroyed or significantly damaged. Due to the significant effects, the name Agnes was retired in the spring of 1973. Through the years as I saw the set's high numbered commons rise in price, I always wanted to know the reason for this. I witnessed and survived Agnes along with the damage and grief it caused, yet these high numbered cards have been saved, maybe from a person in Chicago, L. Houston or Saint Louis who bought and took care of the cards as they escaped West from Pennsylvania and the Hurricane.

The 72 issue has risen to be one of the most expensive of any Topps set made, sitting near or at the top with the 1955, 57 and 58 sets. Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list.
